Gladiator Sandals

Hey guys! Hope you all enjoyed your weekend.
My latest fashion pick up... Gladiator Sandals.

Gladiators, aka"glads", are the new fashion MUST HAVE. They are comfortable to wear and are still dressy enough to wear instead of heels. They range in all sorts of styles and all sorts of prices.

Glads can range from Steve Maddens prices of about $50-$70. But my pick, go to Target! Target is selling Glads for about $25 dollars! At that price you can buy two pairs for the same price of one from Steve Madden.

I have two pairs of Glads and LOVE them! They are so easy to put on and I still feel they are dressy enough to wear out to parties or to clubs.

Hippie Style

Hey all! Lately the new style is going back to the 70's. Tie-dyed outfits, head bands and braids. So break into mom's old wardrobe and go vintage! Side braids are all the rage right now. You can wear them in many different styles.

Braiding is very simple:

1. Divide all the hair into three even sections and comb each section smooth.
2. Cross the right hand section over the middle section. The original right hand section is now the middle section.
3. Pull all the sections away from each
other to tighten the plait.
4. Cross the left hand section over the middle
section. The original left hand section is now the middle section.
5. Tighten the plait again.
6. Continue the process alternating right and left sections over the middle section, tightening each plait as you make it.
7. Secure the end of the braid with a bobby pin.

If braids are not your style try rocking a headband in the middle of your forehead. Get ready to rock back into the 70's and welcome the hippie inside of you!

How To Create The Perfect Beach Hair

Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone! I hope you are all enjoying the hot dogs and hamburgers and catching some sun. Recently my roommate who has naturally straight hair asked how I keep my hair curly and beachy looking. I figured that many other people have naturally straight hair and wish to wear it curly sometimes so I'm here to help! I'm going to show you how I create my beachy curly hair!

  1. Keep hair damp. Once you step out of the shower towel dry your hair.
  2. Run your fingers through your hair and shake it upwards towards the top of your scalp. This allows the hair to become loose and wavy.
  3. Apply moose. I like to use moose that is specially made to induce curls. (Tresemme Flawless Curls is a good brand.) Here your going to want to apply a palm full of moose to each side of your hair. In other words, apply moose right up, then shake your hair over to one side, then the other and then finish by flipping your hair over and applying it to the bottom of your hair. When applying the moose keep "scrunching" your hair. Scrunching means grabbing a chunk of your hair and squeezing it. Your going to want to scrunch your hair in layers. Start with the top pieces of your hair and follow in the middle and then the end.
  4. After the moose is applied squeeze about a quarter size amount of gel into your hand. Rub your hands together and use the same scrunching technique with the gel on your hair.
  5. After the gel is in spray a little bit of hair spray all over your hair. If you like your curls to be soft, don't use too much hair spray too much hair spray makes the curls have a stiff feeling. But if your hair has a problem holding curls use more hair spray.
  6. After your spray is in, throw your hair up in a simple bun. This keeps the hair together so the curls don't fall.
  7. After about 10 mins in the bun you have two options. You could either dry your hair with a hair dryer on low (still scrunching your hair as you dry it.) Or you can just let your hair dry naturally letting it air dry.
Having trouble with my steps? I recorded myself scrunching my hair!

Your hair should turn out to be beachy curly and flawless! I love doing my hair this way because it is easy and quick to do. I love wearing my hair curly in the summer the best though because it always looks like I came right from the beach, even if I didn't.

Beach Blondes

To keep with our hair up keep week, I decided to write about something that I'm an expert at...being BLONDE! Summer's here so keep your blonde the best it can be!

How to get the best blonde you can get? My best advice is to pick up a bottle of Sun-In. Sun-In is a spray that you spray on your hair when you lay outside at the beach or in your own backyard. If you have a darker shade of blonde or you are close to brown hair, I do not recommend this product. There have been some results that say it can turn your hair orange. But if you are a bleach blonde like myself, I have had good results.

If you want a cheaper product to "bump up your blonde" try lemon juice. You can either pour lemon juice in a spray bottle or just pour it right from the bottle. For best results I would use this right after you jump out of the pool or the ocean. Not only with your hair lighten from the sun and the lemon juice, you will smell lemony fresh all day.

Keep your hair sunny blonde in these sunny days!

Keeping Hair Hydrated In Summer Heat

Summer is finally here! I think we all have been waiting for the sun to finally peep it's head out of the winter clouds. Whether you like to lay out at the beach or in the comfort of your own backyard your hair tends to become brittle and dry. A combination of the heat of the sun and the chlorine or salt water. Especially if you color your hair, you have to be extra careful that you don't fry your hair.

Here is my favorite receipt to keep your hair moist and bouncy. It's a combination of avocado and mayo.

  • 1/4 avocado, peeled and mashed
  • 1/4 mayonnaise
  • blender or food processor
Combine avocado and mayonnaise in a blender or food processor until the mass is consistent and smooth. It'll turn into a thicker form of conditioner. Apply on your hair and cover with a shower cap. Leave it on for about 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse off with a gentle shampoo.

I would apply this once a week if your hair is very dry, if your hair is not too dry apply twice a month (every 2 weeks.)

Keep cool and keep your hair moist in these sunny days and enjoy!

Welcome

Welcome friends! My name is Jen and I'm here to provide some beauty tips to help you create a beautiful and healthy body. A few of you probably have been following my poetry blog, but I wanted to try a different topic for my new friends and one that many people have asked me about.

As a college student you learn a few tricks of the trade in fashion, make-up, hair styles, and body and skin care. Many of my friends ask me to help them with their make-up or how to make their hair have more volume. So I thought why stop at my friends, why not help everyone who has questions! And where do you go to find the best answers? THE INTERNET!

I'll be focusing on make-up applying techniques, hair styles, skin and body care and the ins & outs of the fashion world (and how to get the best fashions for the best price of course.) Having a college student mind frame really helps in these areas. I'll be able to point you in the best directions for affordable fashion and beauty supplies.

Feel free to comment me back with any questions that you might have, but most of all just enjoy! I hope I can help and provide a little bit a fashion advice into your life!
